Once you have booked me as your doula I will visit you 2/3 weeks before your due date to discuss your requirements, expectations and birth preferences. This visit usually lasts approximately1 ½ to 2 hours. From 38 weeks I will then be on 24 hour/ 7 days a week standby, until you go into labour. Once you are in labour I will come to you, either at home or in hospital, and stay with you until you deliver. I only leave once you and your baby are settled and you are happy for me to go. I revisit you about a week later to discuss how the birth went.
This can begin within a week of giving birth, or once you alone with the baby, i.e. when your partner returns to work or your family goes home. I visit at pre arranged times to help you with your new baby, other children, cooking, light housework, minding the baby while you have a sleep/bath etc. Visits are for a minimum of 3 hours and can continue for as long as you need.
